MCDC Garza: “Our Sympathy is With the Flores Family”

Arizona Daily Star Reports No Connection Between MAD and MCDC
June 13, 2009

Minuteman Civil Defense Corp Vice President Al Garza responded today to the Arizona Daily Star news story that linked Shawna Forde, leader of a Washington based “border watch” group called Minutemen American Defense, to the tragic home invasion in Arivaca last month which claimed the life of a father and young girl.

“Since our inception MCDC has fought against crime consequent to open borders and this kind of violence,” said Garza. “Our sympathy is with the Flores family.”

The Arizona Daily Star reported that four years ago Shawna Forde had a brief association with MCDC, but neither she nor her group had any connection with MCDC.

“We worked with Ms. Forde briefly before dismissing her in 2005,” Garza said. “We conduct a very stringent vetting process before engaging in any long term association with any person or group.”

“Unfortunately we have no control over the use of the Minuteman name. MCDC maintains an excellent working relationship with law enforcement agencies nationwide. We will provide Sheriff Dupnik with any assistance he requests.”
